Faux Like a Pro

Faux Like a Pro

For the savvy interior designer, faux florals have become a staple in their luxury projects, adding the perfect - and everlasting - finishing touch. The beauty and lasting impact without the cost and maintenance of fresh flowers makes faux the way to go. When thoughtfully designed and expertly styled, real-touch botanicals like ours at BBH can bring the perfect softness, depth, pop of color and organic quality to any space.

Like any luxury interiors product, quality is key. As a professional florist, I suggest looking for stems with realistic color variation, natural movement, and authentic details. Flowers in nature are perfect in their imperfection, reflecting the subtle irregularities rather than uniformity. Asymmetry, varying degrees of bloom, and nuanced differences make a far more convincing arrangement.

As with interiors, styling is of equal importance. I advise not treating every arrangement the same, there has to be balance and flow to a home’s floral program. I recommend layering different bloom sizes, heights, and shapes to compliment the display area. Whether you’re styling a dramatic foyer, finishing a bedside table, or adding life to a shelving display, the role each arrangement plays should vary accordingly.

The vessel. The sometimes humble, sometimes statement-making vases, bowls, and platters that house your faux flowers deserve just as much consideration. Size, proportion, and materials all have an effect on the final composition of the arrangement. Choosing a sculptural piece becomes part of the impact, while choosing a simple style allows the florals to take center stage. A successful arrangement is always a complimentary conversation between the two elements.

Caring for your faux florals is an essential part of their lasting impact. To maximize longevity, keep arrangements out of direct sunlight to prevent discoloration, dust them periodically with a soft cloth or duster and feel free to fluff and reshape the blooms over time. One of my favorite pro tips is to keep a can of dust spray on hand to get into the nooks and crannies where dust is harder to reach. These rituals will ensure your arrangements maintain their realism for years to come.

At Barrett Bergmann Home, I and our expert product development team hand selected each bloom and blade of grass to ensure consistent high quality. We looked at how each specimen would behave in nature and followed that direction as a guide when composing each arrangement. We do not simply see our real-touch florals as an alternative to fresh, they are a design tool that offers consistency, flexibility, and enduring beauty long after installation day.
